Star Story

– Faith Light –

During my sophomore year at the University of Hartford, I was asked to help coordinate a student event that had been struggling to attract participation in the past.

The situation was clear: engagement was low, and the event needed fresh energy to succeed.

My task was to improve turnout and create a communication strategy that resonated with students.

I started by developing a targeted promotional outline that used social media, email outreach to those who went to our fair and signed up to hear from us, and on-campus campaigns (posters). I designed graphics to grab attention online and on campus, wrote short and friendly captions that matched the tone (short & easy to read fast) for our audience, and ask fellow co-workers to help spread the word in classes and student spaces.

The result was seen as a major improvement: attendance increased compared to the prior years, and students shared positive feedback about how they had felt invited, well informed, and kept in the loop. The event not only met its goals but also left me with a strong appreciation and grasp for how clear messaging and marketing can help with engagement.

This experience helped further grow my strengths in communication, creativity, and organization:

All skills I bring with me to every project and opportunity.
